Reclaiming Xylene

An Ohio manufacturer of doors and window frames used xylene to clean paint guns on its assembly line. The solvent waste consisted of a suspension of paint resins in xylene. They used more than 6,000 gallons of xylene each year, with annual xylene purchase and waste disposal costs approaching $30,000.
