SAFETY &
REGULATIONS
-
Is the system safe?
Yes. There are many safety devices with multiple
redundancies built into the system. Temperature
shutdown sensors and pressure relief valves are
standard safety features. Further, the units are certified to UL2208 and related safety standards.
- Will product quality be
maintained (i.e., will the distilled solvent
meet, or exceed virgin specifications)?
As long as the recycler is operated correctly,
and according to provided instructions, the
quality of the recovered
solvent should meet, or exceed virgin
specifications, and it will not contain any
contaminant-based color.
- Are there any
regulatory requirements (i.e. air permitting)
that need to be met?
No. Do keep in mind that even though the storage
of a hazardous waste is regulated, the recycling
process itself is
exempt from RCRA regulations; therefore, no
permitting is required. (Please see EPA 40CFR
261.6(b), (c), and (d)).
- Is there a possibility
that a hazardous waste will be created in the
solvent recycler (e.g., the concentration
of specific contaminants in the residue left in
the bottom of the recycler?
No. The only two products that result from
recycling are the recovered solvent and the
recovered waste. You are not
creating a new product, nor are you treating the
solvent. You simply are separating the two
existing components.
- What "OSHA Standards" does this unit meet?
OSHA is concerned with employee safety, and CBG recyclers have the following
features which are reviewed by OSHA on an inspection: (i) multiple redundant
safety controls; (ii) automatic shut-down in case of trouble; (iii) internal
switches to prevent over-heating; (iv) built in accordance with UL 2208
(Underwriters Laboratories Standard 2208), EU (European Union) and CA (Canadian)
Standards which cover solvent distillation recyclers used for recycling flammable
or combustible liquids; (v) built in accordance with the National Electrical Code,
NFPA 70, the Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code, NFPA 30, the Standard for Spray
Application Using Flammable or Combustible Materials, NFPA 33, the Uniform Fire Code,
NFPA 1, and the International Fire Code, IFC; and (vi) no fumes are emitted from
CBG recyclers during operation.
EQUIPMENT AND OPERATION
[ top of page ]
- Is there any special
expertise required to operate, or maintain the
recycler?
No. A relatively untrained person can easily
operate the recycler, and there is no routine
maintenance is required.
- How much personnel
time per day is needed to operate the recycler
and to implement an effective
solvent recovery program?
As a general rule, you can expect to spend less
than a total of ten minutes a day to perform the
drain process, and to
get the recycler up-and-running. After that,
walk away. The recycler operation is automatic,
and it will take care
of itself, including shut down.
- Is there any special
equipment, or containers (that are not included
with the recycler) that are needed
to operate the recycler?
No. However, separate containers (such as
55-gallon drums, or larger polypropylene
vessels) are needed for the collection and transport of waste solvent, and
for the collection of clean recovered solvent.
Most facilities choose to
use whatever vessels they are currently using,
but if you do not currently use such containers,
you will need to
obtain them. CBG will provide all of the
necessary transfer pumps and hoses.
- How much do the solvent processing bags cost and what is their anticipated life span?
The solvent processing bags cost $2.50 each, and they are supplied in packages of
25 that cost $62.50. The bags can be used several times
until a bag is filled about 15-20% with resins and other residues. At
that time, if the residues don't stick to the bag, you can dump the residues
and start over. The bag can be used until it shows signs of tearing.
- How large is the
equipment (length x width x height)?
A 6-gallon S600 unit is 22.5" side x 39" deep x 44" tall;
An 8-gallon TechnoClean Plus unit is 26 wide x 48 deep x 78
tall; A 25-gallon TechnoClean Plus unit is 38 wide x 60 deep x 90
tall; and A 40-gallon TechnoClean Plus unit is 40 wide x 80 deep x 120
tall.
- How much clearance is
needed (around the perimeter of the unit) in
order to provide for easy operation
and maintenance?
This depends on the size of the transfer and
recovery vessels, but usually 3 feet clearance
is more than ample.
- How much headroom is
needed above the recycler for proper operation
and maintenance?
Again, 3 feet of clearance is usually more than
adequate.
- What are the
requirements for voltage and full-load amperage?
Depending on the unit type, CBG can supply recyclers either with
220/240, or 440/480 volt and 1, or 3 phase
wiring. Wattages can
range from 8 kva to 19 kva, depending on the
size of of the recycler, and your needed
recovery rates.
- Are any other
utilities (e.g., water, compressed air, or
special ventilation) required for operation?
No. The recyclers are air-cooled self-contained
units that do not emit any fumes.
- Are equipment and
electrical drawings available?
Yes. Simply contact our technical
representatives.
EQUIPMENT OWNERSHIP & MAINTENANCE
[ top of page ]
- Are lease options,
rather than purchase, available?
CBG offers several different lease
programs. Please contact one of our sales
representatives.
- How much time is needed
to clean and/or maintain the recyclers?
No cleaning and maintenance is necessary.
- Are there any
expendable, or wear components that need to be
replaced during the use of the
recyclers? What are the parts? What are their
expected life-times? What are the costs?
The gasket on the tank lid will need to be
occasionally replaced. The frequency will depend
on how often the lid is
opened. The usual times can range anywhere from
1 to 6 months.
- How is the residue
(still bottoms) removed from the boiling tank?
Depending upon the consistency of the residue,
the residue will either be collected through a
drain in the bottom of
the tank, or collected in a disposable bag.
- What is the cost for
repair service?
All recyclers come with a six-month warranty on
parts and labor. Virtually any repair
could be
performed by your own in-house maintenance
personnel.
- What is the expected life span of the unit?
The expected life-span is well beyond 10 years. CBG recyclers are "built tough".
The boiling tanks are custom-manufactured using heavy-gauge stainless steel, and
the cabinetry is made from heavy-gauge steel that is powder-coated with a special
solvent-resistant paint for long life and no corrosion, or rusting. CBG also uses
heavy-duty heaters that not only provide shorter cycle times, but more importantly,
provide better reliability and longer equipment life.
SOLVENT RECOVERY
[ top of page ]
- How many gallons of
solvent can be recovered per hour?
Depending on the size and type of the boiling
tank, and on the type of solvent, the rate can
range from 1 to 22
gallons per hour.
- What kinds of recovery
can be expected?
Under normal operating conditions, you can
expect to recover almost 100% of the solvent
present in the waste stream.
